| When & Where |
When and where do young writers meet? SASS invites students in grades 6-12 to join free, extra- curricular songwriting clubs already established in dozens of schools in Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa, Whitby, and York Region. If you are a parent of a child interested in the SASS program, you may contact us to learn which schools currently offer a program or how you might help a local teacher start a songwriting club at your child's school. Students in dozens of schools in Ontario enjoy a weekly forum for trying out their new material at lunch or after-school. Songwriting tips are often shared, but weekly meetings are often most practical when students fill the time releasing their latest creative material, with helpful feedback and encouragement from their SASS club teacher and peers. Approximately once a month, SASS also sponsors guest songwriting clinics during the school day, led by professional songwriters. SASS Canada schools and community partners host frequent inter-school recitals, (as many as 20 events per year) so young artists can network and inspire each other. To be kept up-to-date on open-mics and SASS stage opportunities in Ontario, please consult our Events page. We also thank Giacomo Bruno for kindly hosting over 25 SASS open-mics at Isabella's Chocolate Café in Oshawa throughout 2009 and 2010. From 2010 to 2012, on one Friday evening of each month, SASS students have been welcome to take the stage at Whitby's THE MUSIC SCENE, courtesy of the Stellas and Milton Gavilanez. To register to perform, please e-mail our "SASS Revue" organizer, Darlene Voogt, at sassocvi@hotmail.com. |
