Martyn Beckett Director, Durham District School Board SASS has provided an important opportunity for students to express their musical talents in an emotionally-safe environment. Our students and teachers have found that SASS helps to engage all students, including those at-risk of not achieving academic success. While athletics may serve this need in some students, we recognize that there are students for whom athletics is not the connection to school. Many of these students have found that SASS provides a forum for them to express their feelings… through music. They feel a connection to their teacher, engage with school, and find that they have gifts and talents which have perhaps not been recognized in the past... I encourage other school boards to experience the excitement of SASS and the growth of their students through music. I offer my warmest wishes to SASS for continued success in helping young people to share their gifts. |
